Earth Stove Catalyst Guide

Prior to ordering a new catalyst for your Earth Stove woodstove, remove the old catalyst and verify the dimensions to ensure that you are ordering the correct size. The dimensions of Condar catalysts may differ slightly from the existing catalyst in your stove. Unless these dimensions differ significantly, stove performance will not be impacted.

Earth Stoves — 1000C

The 1000C is the only stove manufactured by Earth Stove that uses a round catalyst. The stove requires a catalyst that is 6 inches (15 cm) round by 2 inches (5 cm), with 25 cells per square inch and wrapped with a stainless steel can. It is wrapped with extra gasket outisde the can at no extra charge.

The 1002C, BV400C (pre 1990) and the BV4000C (pre 1990)

All these stoves use the CC-253 catalyst. With the 1002C you should retain the housing. It comes out with the catalyst and could accidentally be tossed out with the wornout catalyst. The stove requires a catalyst that is 2.5 x 15.3 x 2 inches (6 x 39 x 5 cm), with 16 cells per square inch and uncanned.

Item # CC-253 (ceramic): $212

Accessories:

All these stoves use "canned" catalysts that are banded first in CatGard gasket and then in stainless steel. These generally do not need additional gasket, but if you do, you can order additional gasket here:
CatGard™ Gasket 2.0 x 22.0 x 1/16 inches
(5 x 56 x 0.1 cm) Quantity - 2: $3.75 each

Condar strongly recommends that you use a catalytic thermometer along with your woodstove. A thermometer ensures that you're burning safely and efficiently, while protecting your stove.
Catalytic Probe Thermometer: $20

The 1005 stove and the BV450C insert uses the CC-256

The 1005, the BV450C insert and the 1000C are the only Earth Stoves that call for canned catalysts. The stove requires a catalyst that is 2.5 x 15.3 x 3 inches (6 x 39 x 7.5 cm) with 16 cells per square inch and canned.

Catalytic Thermometers

About half of the Earth Stove stoves and inserts are designed to accommodate a catalytic thermometer for monitoring the performance of your catalyst. Visit our woodstove thermometers page for more information.

Notes

It is best to check your owner's manual or remove your old catalyst to insure you are ordering the correct size. The Earth Stove product line was purchased by Lennox Company. They no longer produce catalytic woodstoves. We market replacement catalytic catalysts and CatGard gasket, but do not offer other replacement parts for Earth Stoves.

If an error is discovered in this information, or you have additional helpful information about the installation of replacement catalysts in your woodstove, please feel free to contact Carolyn Greene, Plant Manager at Condar's factory in North Carolina.
