Fireplace Xtrordinair™ Combustor Guide

The Fireplace Xtrordinair wood-burning line offers high-quality fireplaces with catalytic technology, made by Travis Industries in Washington State. Condar Company manufactures replacement catalytic combustors for these units, both current and discontinued models.

There are two Xtrordinair versions, the “medium size” 36 and the “large” 44. Recent production (after the year 1995) standardizes both so that your replacement catalytic combustor is Condar’s Combustor Number CC-453.

This combustor is 3.6 inches wide, 18 inches long, and 3 inches thick. It has 25 cells per square inch, and is canned. (By canning, it’s meant that the ceramic has a stainless steel strip welded around it.) If you need expanding gasket material to install this replacement catalytic combustor, you’ll need to order it separately.

For earlier 44 versions, be sure to carefully note your Travis model number. The FPX44AZC and the FPX44 require a replacement combustor that is thinner (2 inches thick), shorter (14.2 inches long), is 16 cells per square inch, and is NOT canned.

This uncanned combustor comes to you wrapped with expanding gasket material for installation.

For earlier 36 versions, there are two different replacement combustors.

Check your Travis model number: The FPX36F uses a combustor that is 2 inches thick. This one is 3.625 inches wide by 12.250 inches long. It’s canned, 16 cells per square inch.

The FPX36, 36A, 36AC, and 36AZC all use a

The manuals for Xtrordinairs show an earlier analog probe thermometer that's no longer in production. To install this improved, electronic digital thermometer, please e-mail Tim Pope at Condar before ordering, and let him know your Xtrordinair model number. Your Xtrordinair may require slightly enlarging the 1/8-inch hole (on some models), modifying the thermocouple port (on some models), or probe modifications on the thermometer before Condar ships to you. See Condar's Catalytic Meters to order the thermometer.

Notes

The model 33 Insert does not deploy catalytic technology and does not have a combustor.

When referring to this product line, the Xtrordinair trademark is sometimes misspelled as Extrordinair, Extrordinaire, Xtrordinaire, Xtraordinaire, Extraordinaire, Extraordinair, and so forth.

To learn more about the fireplaces, go to www.fireplacex.com or phone (800) 654-1177. We market replacement catalytic combustors and CatGard gasket, but do not offer other replacement parts for Fireplace Xtrordinair.

“I'm so glad to find Condar's website while searching for a replacement catalytic combustor. By entering the model number of my 18-year-old fireplace insert, I quickly found exactly what I needed. Ordering was simple, and the new combustor arrived a few days later. It fits perfectly and, best of all, my old fireplace insert is now as good as new!”
